Dear Glenn,
Is there a color of apparel that would be helpful during
an employee evaluation (with me being the employee)?
Mary in
Arizona
Dear Mary,
No, because performance evaluation scores are
calculated beforehand, and are based on performance for
a specific period of time.
However, you could ask your boss if the way
you dress on a daily basis is appropriate for your
position. Even if there's nothing you need to change,
merely asking shows that you're thinking about it.
Thanks for your question.
Glenn in Nashville, TN

When left wing
liberal and gay activist Elton John sang at the wedding of right
wing conservative Rush Limbaugh last week, both were criticized
for “consorting with the enemy”.
This demonstrates
just how naïve people can be.
What so many people
don’t understand is that the more powerful and successful you
are in life, the more three things happen:
1. You become more
steadfast in your convictions
2. You realize that
other powerful people are equally steadfast in theirs, and
you’re not going to change them
3. You learn to get
along with them
People should have
their own opinions, and should stand up for what they believe
in.
But the only thing
more foolish than expecting everyone else to share the same
opinion is alienating themselves from anyone who doesn’t.
While Rush and Elton
don’t agree on many issues, they quickly hit it off and Elton
invited Rush and his wife to his home in London.
But the bigger lesson
comes from the conversation they had before the wedding:
Rush: "I can't
believe the schedule you keep. I mean, you're in Morocco one
night, and you're in Egypt. You're touring, you're doing Vegas.
Do you ever get tired?"
Elton: "No. What
would I do? What would you do if you quit, just play golf?"
Rush: "Yeah, that's
true."
Elton: "Rush, we're
doing what we love. There's no reason to stop. I'm enjoying
every minute of it."
These guys have more
money than they could ever spend, and both keep working.
Meanwhile, people in
France are ready to riot because the government will now require
people to work until 62, instead of retiring at 60 as they now
do.
Whether you’re a left
wing liberal or right wing conservative, here’s one thing you
can actually agree on with everyone.
You will be happier
and more successful in life when you’re doing what you love.
It doesn’t have to be
glamorous.
Dr. Tom Stanley,
author of The Millionaire Next Door, has consistently
found one of the most common traits of self-made millionaires is
that they love what they do for a living, including those that
run junkyards, grow timber, and own pawn shops.
As Apple co-founder Steve Jobs said in his commencement speech
to the 2005 graduating class at Stanford:
Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the
only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is
great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what
you do. If you haven't found it yet, keep looking. Don't settle.
As with all matters of the heart, you'll know when you find it.
And, like any great relationship, it just gets better and better
as the years roll on.
Steve Jobs was right, as Elton John and Rush Limbaugh have
proven.
